A celebrated educator, award-winning performer, civic leader, and former Mayor of Ferrysburg — Lisa Menerick has devoted her life to the transformative power of music and to nurturing every student who walks through her studio door.
Originally from East Grand Rapids — where she grew up across the street from President Gerald R. Ford — Lisa has been a defining voice in the West Michigan music community for over four decades. She received profound early training from prestigious private instructors, counting Grand Rapids Symphony harpist/pianist Mrs. J. Litscher, Grace Episcopal's Mr. Norman Greenwood, and Eastman and Juilliard graduates among her mentors. A BA with honors in Education from Michigan State University and a Degree Certified Teacher in the State of Michigan, she also holds credentials from Sullins College (Bristol, VA), Wayne State University, and Grand Valley State University. She maintains rigorous pedagogical standards by regularly attending masterclasses with luminaries like John Schaum, Ralph Votapek, Glenda Austin, William Gillock, and the Suzuki Association.
Lisa spent nearly 50 years as an educator—teaching in public schools since 1975 and at Jackson Community College—while simultaneously building one of West Michigan's most respected private piano and voice studios. Her performing career has carried her from intimate community stages to the national anthem podium at Loutit District Library's Naturalization Ceremony, the annual Ferrysburg Carol Sing, and the arena floor of the Professional Bull Riders as a licensed rodeo consultant. A professional actress in her own right, she brings a rare theatrical understanding of expression and presence to every student she teaches.
Lisa is a recognized leader within the music education profession. As a longtime Active Member (since 1979) and Western Michigan Audition Chairman of the American College of Musicians / National Guild of Piano Teachers, and having served as President of West Michigan Piano Teachers, she has shaped the standards of instruction across the region. As a competition judge for both Piano and Voice, and a Tuesday Musicale Student Performance Excellence adjudicator, she brings an evaluative eye sharpened by decades of performance and training. A Lifetime Member of the St. Cecilia Music Society, Lisa's commitment to West Michigan's cultural life is unwavering.
